O submarino nuclear da Índia Arihant

Abstract

This monograph covers the INS Arihant procurement program, the first nuclear submarine built in India. The aim of this paper is to analyze how the Indian experience can subsidize the Brazilian Ministry of Defense and to propose measures, as far as possible, reasonably and with a view to convenience, to the program to obtain the first Brazilian nuclear submarine. The methodology used employed literature review and data search in books, scientific articles, databases and news, in physical, digital or websites. The field of study was confined to the Indian case, within countries with nuclear submarines, due to the relative similarity between the two countries in several aspects and the consequent ease of obtaining information. The work began with the necessary theoretical foundation, starting from the concept of nation, through the Constitution of the Republic of 1988 and the normative documents of the National Defense, namely, the National Defense Policy, the National Defense Strategy and the White Paper National Defense, where the use of nuclear submarine in the National Defense is foreseen. Following is a discussion of India and the reasons that made it possible to successfully build the INS Arihant, namely the Indo-Soviet alliance, the Indian geopolitics, the Indian elite, and the Indian defense industrial base. The Advanced Technology Vessel program is analyzed, from origins to INS Arihant, encompassing its constructive characteristics and financial data. The conclusion lists the measures suggested for the Brazilian program.
